I feel now after being two weeks into summer workouts that most of the guys are catching their wind and beginning to push themselves to that next level. Last week, being our first week back from break, was definitely a change of pace from the 3-4 weeks off we had to go back home. This is not to say players were not working out and running during their break, at this level you must continue pushing yourself or else you will lose a step on your opponent who I can gaurantee is training week in and week out. Most of the general public does not realize that this is a 12-month game, not just Septemeber through December. The work you put in now determines the outcomes of games months away, and we as a team are truly beginning to understand that concept. After last years rollercoaster ride with all the close games coming down to the final minutes, we fully grasp the idea of one play making or breaking a game. We are constantly reminded by the coaching staff as well as by each other to push just a little harder during every lift, to run just a little bit faster every 6 am run to ensure that we can make that play come season time. With the team being both on the losing end of close games as well as on the winning side, we are in a unique position where we absolutely understand both feelings; more than most programs around the nation. This has led us to embrace our new conditioning and lifting program, which is more intense than years past, in order to take that next step as a football program.
